Traditional Polish Liquors Tasting in Krakow

The tour provides a comprehensive taste of Polish liquid culture, blending modern pub drinks with historical meads and finishing with a spirited introduction to Poland’s iconic vodkas and their customary culinary accompaniments.

The experience begins with an introduction to contemporary Polish beverages, such as a local dry cider and a classic Polish beer, setting a light, convivial tone for the tour.

At the next stop, the focus shifts to Poland's historic alcoholic beverage: Mead (miód pitny - 'drinkable honey'). You will have an opportunity to discover the long and rich tradition of honey-based fermentation and to taste two distinct varieties of this traditional local liquor.

A necessary culinary interlude follows with a tasting of a quintessential Polish street food.

The tour culminates in a traditional Polish zakąski (small bites/appetizers) experience, featuring strong spirits and classic pairings. You will taste two significant Polish vodkas:

  • Krupnik: A warming, aromatic liquor often containing honey and spices, typically featuring a 40% rye-wheat vodka base.
  • 'Piołunówka': A powerful 50% wormwood-infused vodka, known for its herbaceous bitterness.

These vodkas are served with traditional Polish chasers or appetizers, specifically a pickle and herring in oil, providing the essential, salty, and sour flavors that perfectly cut through the strength of the spirits.
