Airport transfers
- There is a direct airport train that brings you to the Central Train Station (Kraków Główny), located in the city center, a short walk from the Old Town
- Rides can also be booked via app/taxi (see below)
Kraków trams and buses
- Often share stops, but only buses operate at night.
- Each line has its own schedule posted at stops, and major hubs feature digital real-time departure boards.
- Both are frequent on weekdays but less frequent on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
- Regular bus lines (numbered 100–194) cover residential areas and gaps, while metropolitan lines (starting with 2, 3, or 9) cross into Zone II. Night buses (numbered 600+) run hourly from central hubs like Teatr Słowackiego.
- Trams are the backbone of the city's transportation network: fast, frequent, and unaffected by traffic jams. Fast tram lines include numbers 50 and 52. Operating hours are roughly 5:00 AM to midnight (or 11:00 PM for standard routes). Kraków’s tram fleet ranges from modern low-floor models to historic-style cars.
- Low-floor, wheelchair-accessible vehicles are marked with an “N” on schedules and displays.
Widely used Mobile apps:
- Jakdojade (the most popular app for route planning and buying single or timed mobile tickets)
- iMKA / MPK Kraków
Fares & Ticketing
- Drivers do not sell tickets
- 20-minute ticket costs 4.00 PLN (great for quick hops across the center)
- 60-minute or single-ride ticket is 6.00 PLN
- 90-minute ticket is 8.00 PLN, and longer passes (24-hour, 48-hour, 72-hour, and 7-day) are also available.
- Children up to age 7 and seniors aged 70+ travel free of charge (with valid photo ID/passport).
- Ordinary luggage and bicycles travel free of charge.
- You can buy tickets with cash or card at newsstands (RUCH, Inmedio), kiosks, and stationary ticket machines at major stops across the city.
- Many vehicles are equipped with onboard ticket machines that accept contactless debit/credit cards or print paper tickets. Paper tickets must be validated in the yellow validator boxes immediately upon boarding. Mobile app tickets must also be activated upon boarding (often by scanning a QR code or entering the 3-digit vehicle number shown inside).
Bike sharing and e-scooters
- Kraków is flat and easy to navigate on foot or two wheels, with extensive cycle paths along the Planty Park ring and the Vistula River embankments.
- E-scooters and e-bikes (Bolt, Lime, Dott) are widely available across the city and can be unlocked directly via their respective apps.
- Park rental scooters only in designated parking zones in central areas to avoid fines.
Taxis and ride-hailing services
Kraków has reliable taxi and ride-hailing options.
The most convenient and popular choices for both locals and visitors are the ride-hailing apps:
- Bolt — Usually the cheapest and most widely available option in Kraków. Fast pick-ups, clear pricing, and offers e-scooters in the same app.
- Uber — Fully operational and reliable throughout the city and to/from Kraków Airport (KRK).
- FreeNow — Works with licensed taxis and ride-shares, great for pre-booking rides or airport transfers.
All three accept card payments, show estimated fares in advance, and let you track your driver.
- Street-hail taxis exist at ranks (e.g., outside Kraków Główny main train station), but apps remain the safest and most transparent choice.
- Download at least two apps (Bolt + Uber) to compare fares during peak hours or bad weather.
